Switch settings for LA210 printers: There are two switchpacks, each containing 8 tiny switches, visible at the back of the machine. The left one (viewed as you look at the back of the machine, right-side-up) is switchpack A, the right one is B. The switches are numbered left-to-right, 1 to 8, in each switchpack. A1 sets "restraint" mode (down) or "speed control" mode (up) using the EIA control lines. Down is the normal setting. A2 enables (up) or disables modem control. Down is the normal setting. A3 and A4 select the response to a paper fault (e.g. out of paper condition). A3 A4 down down No action (XOFF is sent if enabled) (normal setting) up down Send 'break' signal to computer down up Disconnect (drop DTR) up up Do not connect A5 determines whether the printer will ignore (down) the ASCII EOT character, or disconnect when it receives one. Down is the normal setting. A6 disables (down) or enables XON/XOFF flow control. Up is the normal setting. A7 prints a substitute character when an error is detected in the incoming data (e.g. a parity error), if down; or prints data as received regardless of errors, if up. Down is the normal setting. A8 stores currently-selected features in permanent memory. These features include horizontal and vertical tab settings, page length, horizontal and vertical pitch, horizontal and vertical margins, paper alignment, paper width, answerback message, character set selection and mapping, pitch mode, end of line control, new line request, C1 receive and C1 transmit. To alter these settings, you would transmit the appropriate escape sequences to make the change; then toggle the A8 switch from down to up and back to down in order to save the settings in memory. B1 through B5 set the serial data baud rate. In the case of split baud rates (B5 up), the first rate shown is the transmit rate, the second is the receive rate.
