Valdocs 2 Editor File Merge Recovery This technical information is provided by Epson Systems Product Support Group. While it should prove useful to you we cannot guarantee that it will hold true in every instance. Although many of the errors that the Valdocs 2 Editor may have are self-correcting there are some that require some assistance from you for correction. The steps outlined in this paper assume that you can get to the COPY DISK module without going through the Editor. The easiest way to do that is to load Valdocs 2 without a data diskette in the right drive. Prepare for the merge recovery 1. From the COPY DISK main menu, select ile copy, delete, rename. 2. Enter B for the source drive, since we are going to do work on the data disk. 3. If there is a document currently in the Editor that you do not want to lose, select ename a file and go to step 7. Otherwise, select elete a file and continue with the next step. Delete the workfile or... 4. Move the cursor through the file list until you come to the file EDITCUR0.VAL and select it. 5. Press STORE to save your selection, then type to confirm that you want to delete the EDITCUR0.VAL file. 6. Now return to the Editor and then go to step 10. ...Rename the workfile 7. Move the cursor through the file list until you come to the file EDITCUR0.VAL and select it. 8. Now type the file name BADFILE0.VAL and press RETURN. 9. Now return to the Editor and continue with step 10. Create a new document for merging 10. Press RETURN 10 times and move the cursor back up 5 lines into the middle of the carriage returns. 1 87.7.15 11. If you renamed the EDITCUR0.VAL file at the beginning of this procedure, press HELP and select uirks, and go to step 14. Otherwise, press the INDEX key and continue with the next step. Merge bad indexed document or... 12. Press RETURN to elect document to Edit. 13. From the Index list select the document that had been originally in the Editor when the error occurred and then go to step 16. ...Merge old bad workfile 14. From the Quirks menu select etrieve non-indexed file. 15. Type the file name BADFILE0.VAL and press RETRIEVE and continue with the next step. 16. At this point you may STORE the file.
